About Rfn. Laurence Michael Walsh
Laurence Michael Walsh was born at Balfour in the Southland region of New Zealand's South Island on 17 July 1893. His parents were Michael Walsh and Hannah Walsh who had emigrated to New Zealand and made their home at Balfour. Laurence worked as a clerk. During World War I he served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion. His brother Patrick also served overseas and was wounded in action. Patrick died of his wounds on 26 December 1917. Laurence was killed in action in France on 6 July 1918. 24-year-old Laurence was buried in the Hébuterne Military Cemetery [I. J. 4.]. Bio by Debbie McCauley (4 September 2024).
