Holden declared Lowry an outlaw and in 1871 the General Assembly placed a $10,000 bounty on his head that was never collected. Lowry's legend only grew with the mystery that surrounded his disapperance.
- *NOT: Henderson Oxendine, the only member of the Lowry Gang to be convicted of murder and executed, is buried at Sandcutt Cemetery in Pembroke, NC.
