RICHARD received 200 acres of land in Edgecombe County, North Carolina on Buffalo Creek from King George II. In 1746, Edgecombe County was divided and the part in which Richard's family lived became Granville County. In 1764 Granville Co. was divided and they lived in the section that became Bute Co. In 1779 Bute Co. was abolished and their plantation on Buffalo Creek was in Warren Co. Their home never moved, but records of them are found in all four counties. They also owned land in the part of Halifax County which had once been part of Edgecombe County.

A Richard Bennett was listed on the tax lists of Granville Co., NC in 1752, 1753, 1757, and 1765.
