Second son of Sir William Mauleverer of Wotherson and Arncliffe, Yorkshire and Jane Conyers, daughter of Sir John Conyers of Sockburn, Durham.

Husband of Alice Markenfield, daughter of Sir Ninian Markenfield and Dorothy Gascoigne, descendant of King Edward III. Grand daughter of Thomas Markenfield and Eleanor Conyers, Sir William Gascoigne and Margaret Percy, daughter of Sir Henry, Earl of Northumberland.

They were married by dispensation dated 01 Dec 1524, (being related in the 4th degree) and had four sons and two daughters; William, Robert, Sir Edmund, Thomas, Dorothy and Anne, wife of Thomas Leigh.

Robert was heir to his brother, Sir William. In 1536, he was on a grand jury to try the prisoners from the Pilgrimage of Grace, the York uprising against Henry VIII's break with the Roman Catholic Church over the Dissolution of Monasteries.

Robert was buried 31 Jan 1541. His widow's will was dated 04 March and proved 07 March 1553.
