Biography
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Woodward-1931
Sarah Woodward, daughter of Rev. Hezekiah Woodward, Gent., of Bray, Berkshire, and Uxbridge, Middlesex, nonconformist minister and educator, by his wife, and Frances (MNU),[1] was baptized on 5 September 1627 at Saint Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, London.[2]
Sarah Woodward married, as his first wife, to Capt. Daniel Henchman[3][4] before 1657[1] in England. Richardson states that Sarah and Daniel Henchman had the following five children:
- Richard[1]
- Hezekiah[1]
- Nathaniel[1]
- William[1]
- Susanna, married Samuel Collins and John Harris.[1][5]
A 1700 Massachusetts deed indicates another daughter:
- Hannah (wife of William Sumner[3] and John Hall): the deed refers to "said land of a greater parcel purchased by Daniel Henchman dec'sd of Austin Lindon, given to the said Hannah Sumner & Susanna Collins (said Henchman's daughters)"[6]
The family immigrated to New England about 1666 and settled in Boston, Massachusetts where, on 15 October 1669, Daniel and Sarah Henchman signed a deed.[1]
Sarah Henchman's date of death is unknown. Daniel Henchman married second at Dorchester, Massachusetts on 26 April 1672 to Mary Pole or Poole,[4] daughter of Capt. William Poole, of Dorchester, Massachusetts.[1] They had two sons, William and Daniel, and two daughters, Jane (wife of James Varney) and Mary.[1] Daniel died at Worcester, Massachusetts 15 October 1685 and was buried there.[1]
Son-in-law Daniel Henchman and "the five children of Sarah Henchman, deceased," were named in the will of Sarah's father, Hezekiah Woodward of Uxbridge, Middlesex, dated 22 February 1674 and proved 10 July 1675.[7]
In February 1676, the sons of Daniel and Sarah Henchman, Hezekiah, "aged 19 and upward", and Nathaniel, "aged 15 and upward", appeared in court and chose their father, Daniel, to be their guardian with respect to their inheritance from their grandfather, Hezekiah Woodward. The court approved the request and also appointed Daniel as guardian of Susanna Henchman, aged 9 years.[8]
