Origins

Sources are needed to support the maiden name and parents of this Sarah. While some claim (and we have her structured here on Geni) that she was an orphaned daughter of David Rossier and Sarah Sherwood and that she later became a ward of Francis and Mary James, others claim that she was the daughter of John Hauxford/Hawksford/Hocksford.

However, Sarah Hauxford Wells has a separate profile and seems to have had a different husband, if that profile is accurate (and it is unlikely that the two Sarah's have the same death date). The two have long been confused and need to be detangled if they are indeed separate Sarahs.

LDS searches indicate that she was born prior to 1689 in Hanover Parish, King George, Virginia. Wayland also supports the fact that she married Willis, Wood, Hudson and Tuberville, but indicates that she may actually have been the daughter of John Hawksford. Michael John Neills Genealogy Database at Rootsweb / Worldconnect also suggests that she was born in 1690 and died in 1761 and that she was the daughter of John Hauxford.

Williams widow Sarah, married a second time, to Henry Wood; and a third time to Rush Hudson; Finally as a fourth marriage, she became the wife of Edward Turberville of Orange County. Sarah wrote her Will on June 18, 1760, and it was probated in Orange County, May 27, 1761.

A second inventory of William Willis's estate was submitted by Sarah and Rush Hudson on 6 July 1722 (Ref: King George County Order Gook 1721 - 1734, p. 52) By that time, Sarah's second husband, Henry Wood was deceased.

Sarah (Willis - Wood - Hudson - Tuberville) wrote her will in Orange County, Virginia on 18 June 1760 and it was entered for probate on 28 May 1761. It was produced for probate on 25 March 1762.

"In the name of God Amen, I Sarah Tuberville (sic) of Orange County in the colony of Virginia being sick of Body but of perfect mind and memory Thanks be to God for all, do make and ordain this mylast Will and Testament in Manner and form following viz:

Item, I give to my son John Willis One shilling sterling. Item, I give to my son William Willis Ten shillings. (one source suggests that William received only one shilling ?) Item, I give to my son Henry Wood Two pounds. Item, I give to my son David Hudson one shilling sterling. Item, I give to my son Joshua Hudson one shilling sterling. Item, I give to my daughter Sarah Hawkins all my wearing clothes with a book called William Beverage Sermons. Item, I give to Rush Hudson's daughter Mary one chest and his daughter Elizabeth one trunk. I give to my son Rush Hudson one Negro Woman named Winny during his life and afgterwards I give the said Winny and her increase to Rush Hudson Jr. I give to my son Rush all the rest of my goods to dispose with as he shall think proper and (finally) I make and ordain my son Rush Hudson full and whole Executor of his my last Will and Testament Revoking all other will or wills by me made in witness whereof I have herunto set my hand and seal this 18th day of June in the year of our Lord God 1760. John Willis Sr. patented land on Oct. 21, 1669 next to land patented to John Washington which now lies in Hanover Parish, King George County, Virginia. This is referred to in a deed made by his grandson (Order Bk. I, p 607, King Geo. County, Virginia., 1729-30).

John Willis who died testate in Orange County, Virginia in 1762, married in 1735, in King George County, Va. Elizabeth Plunkett. (Ref. St. Paul's Parish Reg.) He was born about 1710, and was the son of William and Sarah Willis of Richmond & King George County, Va. His mother as the young widow of William Willis married a 2nd time to Henry Wood by whom she had one son, Henry Wood. As her third husband Rush Hudson, she had other children, named in her will. This Sarah maiden name unknown married a fourth time, as his 2nd wife, Mr. Edward Turberville. Edward Turberville had one daughter by his first wife, who married Walter Shropshire of King George County, Va. In the settlement of the estate of Edward Tuberville in Orange County, Va., the widow, Mrs. Sarah Turberville, received one third of his estate and Walter Shropshire received the other two thirds in right of his wife. The will of Sarah Turberville is recorded in Book 2, page 310, Orange County, Va., dated June 18, 1760, and probated May 28, 1761.
