Seth Ward Joplin

Seth Ward Joplin was born 19 April 1910 in Lynn County, Texas to parents Seeb Winston Joplin and Florence Elizabeth Porter.

On 24 October 1936, he married Dorothy Bonita East in Jefferson County, Texas; he was listed as "S. W. Joplin, Jr." on the record index. Together, they had two daughters and one son. Their daughter Janis became an international icon through her singing career before her untimely death at a young age due to accidental drug overdose.

While the family lived in Texas, Seth worked in the oil industry as a manager superintendent. In 1976, he retired and moved to Arizona.

Seth died on 10 May 1987 in Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona and was survived by his wife, Dorothy Joplin; daughter Laura Lee Pelley of Brentwood, Texas; son Michael of Tucson, Arizona; sister Margaret White of Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren.
