Simon Hadley was born in 1640, probably in England. He married Katherine Talbot (1647-1710) around 1675 and she gave birth to Simon Hadley II in 1676. His other children were John, Elizabeth, and Jane. Little is known about Simon Hadley, except that he was probably monetarily comfortable. He lived in Ballynakill, Counnty KIngs, Ireland, up to about 1680, and afterwards moved to the Dublin area. He owned and operated a small forge in County Kings and had land in County West Meath. He also had an investment in a Dublin fishery on Ballyschddan Bay at Howth, north of Dublin. In 1780, he petitioned the English Parliament to protect his four fishing sheds from possible confiscation by the Crown which was contemplating acquisition of the surrounding area at the time. It appears that Siman Hadley converted to Quakerism after 1672. He was a member of the Moate Metting in County West Meath. The meeting house was to the north of Moate Castle. Following his wife's death in 1710, Simon Hadley married Elizabeth, a non-Quaker, and he was disowned by the Moate Meeting. He died in 1711 at the age of 71 years.
