About Sir Alexander Foulis, 1st Baronet of Colinton
Biographical Summary
"Alexander Foulis, Fear of Colinton, co. Edinburgh, only son and heir apparent of Sir James Foulis of Colinton, Advocate [S] 1576, and sometime [1612] M.P. [S] for Edinburgh, by Mary, daughter of Sir John Lauder of Hatton, was created a Baronet [S] 7 June, sealed 22 July 1634 but not recorded in the Great Seal Register [S], with rem. to heirs male watsoever, and with a grant of , presumably, 16,000 acres in Nova Scotia, of which he had seizin in August 1634. He married v.p. (settlement 30 March 1619) Elizabeth, widow of Sir John Stewart, of Bute, 1st daughter and coheir of Robert Hepburn of Foord, co. Edinburgh. He was living 7 August 1643, and probably in 1663, but was dead in 1672."
