Sir Thomas Randolph I was the son of Thomas FitzRandolph. His place of birth is listed variously as Strathnith, Strathwith and Strathdon. Strathdon is in Aberdeenshire, Strathwith seems not to exist, and Strathnith borders Annandale, a property he later gained by marriage.
He married Lady Isabel Kilconquhar, daughter of Adam Kilconquhar and Lady Marjorie Carrick, Countess of Carrick, and stepdaughter of Robert de Bruce, Earl of Carrick, 6th Lord of Annandale. Lady Isabel was the mother of Sir Thomas Randolph II, Earl of Moray, Regent of Scotland. Sir Thomas died in 1294.
Sir Thomas rose to the rank of Chamberlain of Scotland. Below is a description of his duties, taken from Wikipedia.
