William Martin, grandson and heir, being son and heir of Nicholas son of Nicholas, by Maud de Brian. He was aged 25 in 1282, and received livery of his inheritance 1 April 1282, having done homage.

Order to release the demand made upon William Martyn, grandson (nepoti) and heir of Nicholas son of Martyn, tenant in chief, for the scutage of three knights' fees for the king's army of Wales in the fifth year of his reign, as Nicholas was with the king by his order for the service of three fees, which he then acknowledged to the king, as appears by the rolls of the marshalsea.

Inspeximus and confirmation of an agreement between John de Hastingges, lord of Bergeveny and William Martyn, lord of Kammoys, who are staying with the king beyond seas on his service, dated Gaunt in Flanders, September 30, 1297, whereby William son and heir of the former is to marry Eleanor the eldest daughter of the latter, and Edmund son and heir of the latter is to marry Jonetta the eldest daughter of the former, each of the girls to be dowered by their fathers-in-law with land to the value of 100l. a year in case their husbands die before their fathers, and in case their husbands die after their fathers but leaving their wives surviving, they are to have the usual dowers. Witnesses: the noble baron (ber), Anthony du Bek bishop of Durham, Sir William de Brewuse, Sir Walter de Beauchamp, then steward of the household, Sir Guy de Warwyk, Sir Peter Corbet, and others.

Licence for the said William Martin to demise for six years to whomsoever he will of the king's allegiance land to the value of 100l. a year.

In 1317 was one of those appointed to check any illegal confederacies in Devon, and in 1318 he was made a member of the standing royal council. In November 1318 the sheriff of Devon was ordered to hire two ships [at Martin's expense) to convey victuals and other necessaries to him and his men, who were going to serve the King in the marches of Scotland. Hugh de Courtenay and William Martin were in November 1321 ordered to attack any who might rise against the King in Cornwall and Devon, assembling all horse and foot there; at the same time he was one of the conservators of the peace in Gower, and was ordered to abstain from the meeting of the "Good Peers" at Doncaster, which had been convened by Thomas, Earl of Lancaster. In the following February he was ordered to lead his forces to Coventry to resist the Earl of Lancaster.
