About Sir William de Malpas
concerns
Stirnet's "Egerton01" page (link below) indicates that this William and Beatrix Monhalt (de Montalt) were extramarital paramours, but Stirnet's "MZmisc07" page indicates that they married. Further research is warranted.
brief biography and family
had other issue by Margery de Linton besides who is shown here; Stirnet's "Egerton01" page (link below) shows Roger as his son by Margery de Linton instead of by Beatrix Monhalt (de Montalt)

• Background Information. 713
Sir William de Malpas, was the son and heir of David de Malpas, or David le Clerc and his wife Catherine, daughter of Owain Vaghan, lord of Meilor.
He left no legitimate issue with his wife, Margaret, daughter of Cadogan de Lynton, but he did with his mistress, Beatrix Montalt, the daughter the Seneschal of the earl of Chester.
Their children were:
- • Sir David de Malpas, "the Bastard," a.k.a. Sir David le Clerc, who became the heir to his father's moiety of Malpas. David married Constance, the daughter of Owain de Kevelioc, prince of Powys.
- • Roger de Malpas, ancestor of the Malpas of Hampton.
- • NINE daughters, which are not mentioned by Ormerod on the Malpas pedigree.

notes
From THE "MALPAS" FAMILY IN CHESHIRE By Darrell Wolcott
c. William ap David ap William ap David ap William II ap Sir William, born c. 1180, married Beatrix, daughter of Robert de Montalt, seneschal to the Earl of Chester.
1. Visitation of Cheshire, 1580
David (4) who married Margaret (5) was not "le clerk" but the son of William II and father of William born c. 1120 whose son David of c. 1150 was the father of William (6) who married Beatrix (7). They had a son David (8) who was the father of Beatrix (10).
2. Pedigree from Ormerod's History of Cheshire, vol 2, 598:
Neither David in this pedigree is the man called "le Clerk". The man at the top is David of c. 1150 ap William ap David ap William II ap Sir William.
The first William in the chart was born c. 1180 and did marry Beatrix, daughter of Robert de Montalt. This Robert de Montalt was descended from the family of seneschals who served the Earls of Chester, being born c. 1160 and the son of the elder Robert de Montalt, the latter being a son of Ralph fitz Norman.
Their son David was neither "le clerk" nor "the Bastard", both of those being earlier men named David in the Malpas family. Since his daughter Beatrix is known to have inherited one-fourth of Malpas, we may safely assume her father was a legitimate heir of his father.
Sir William de MALPAS Knight (son of Sir David de MALPAS Knight & Catherine Vaughan) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 was born 1182 in Malpas, Cheshire, England. He married 8 Beatrix de MOHAUT.
Beatrix de MOHAUT (daughter of Robert de MOHAUT) 1, 2, 3, 4 was born 1182 in Chester, Cheshire, England. She married 5 Sir William de MALPAS Knight.
They had the following children:
- M i Sir David de MALPAS Knight was born 1200 and died 1260.
- M ii Roger de MALPAS was born 1210.
Other marriages: LYNTON, Margaret de. Margaret de LYNTON 1, 2 was born 1200 in West Lynton, East Riding, Yorkshire, England. She married Sir William de MALPAS Knight on 1221 in Malpas, Cheshire, England.
