About Stephen William Mexted
Obituary
MR. S. W. MEXTED - The death has occurred of Mr. Stephen William Mexted, one of the oldest residents of the Tawa Flat district, in his 81st year. He was born in Tawa Flat, and farmed there all his life.
Well respected throughout the district, Mr. Mexted was of a retiring disposition, which, together with poor health, kept him out of public life, although about fifty years ago, as chairman of the committee, he took a keen interest in the welfare of the Takapu School, no longer in existence, which then had under a dozen pupils. He was the last surviving member of the Loyal Kainapouri Lodge.
Mr. Mexted leaves his wife, Eliza, five sons, Mr. J. W. Mexted, farmer, of Pahautanui, Mr. S. B. Mexted, farmer, of Levin, Mr. C. C. Mexted, cartage contractor, of Tawa Flat, and Mr. M. F. Mexted, on active service with" the First Echelon in Egypt; three daughters Mrs. H. Jupp (Wellington), Mrs. F. Williamson (Pahautanui), and Mrs. E. Hoar (Tawa Flat); and sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
