Susannah Graves (139) was born about 1763, and died 9 March 1837 in Henry Co., VA. She married General Joseph Martin, Jr., son of Joseph Martin and Susannah Chiles, on 24 Feb. 1784 in Henry Co., VA. He was born 18 Sept. 1740 in Albemarle Co., VA, died 18 Dec. 1808 in Henry Co., VA, and was buried at "Bell Monte" on Leatherwood Creek, Henry Co. Susannah was Joseph's third wife. He first married Sarah Lucas in 1762. Sarah died 17 March 1782 in Henry Co., Va. .
After his appointment as Indian Commissioner (while his first wife was living) Joseph married Elizabeth Ward, a Cherokee princess (probably half Indian), and had children James, b. 1781, and Nannie. He was still her husband in 1800. His Indian name was Gulkalu or Longknife. Both his white wives knew of the Indian one. According to R‑259, he married Mary Emory as his fourth wife. All the children of Susannah and Joseph were born in Henry Co., VA. (R‑8, R‑317, R‑571)
