Thomas Belcher

The census records for Westbury-on-Severn tell us that Thomas Belcher was a Carter of Iron at works, Coke Labourer and Furnace Keeper. Thomas’s wife and the mother of his children, Elizabeth Knight died in Westbury on Severn in 1873. In 1875 Thomas married Mrs Emma Pye nee Weyman. Emma Died in 1880 and Thomas married again the same year to Mrs Eliza Ferris nee Bailey.

In 1894 Thomas immigrated to New Zealand on the SS Ruahine. It is thought he may have bought a farm in Raglan but unfortunately no confirmation of this can be found.

Thomas died in 1905 at Kauroa, Raglan, New Zealand age 80.
