About Thomas Floyd, of Georgetown District
Not the Thomas Floyd who married Ann Moody in Franklin, NC and moved to Georgia.
Not the Thomas "Penuel" Floyd who married Sarah Beckwith in Nash, NC. There is census for Thomas of Nash in 1790.
Not the Thomas Floyd who married Betsy Fowler in Perquimans, NC.
The above were contemporaries of this Thomas Floyd of Georgetown, but do not confuse them.
The 1790 census shows Thomas Floyd of Horry and indicates 2 sons and probably 1 wife and 3 daughters (4 females) and 1 slave in Georgetown (Horry District), SC.
Thomas Floyd is one of several brothers (and possible sisters) who moved from North Carolina before the American Revolution to the Horry County, South Carolina area (then part of Georgetown District). After substantive research in census data, court and legislative archives, it appears clear that the parents of the brothers are Samuel Floyd and Ann Rowland Floyd. Rowland/Roland are family names in various lines and each line has a Samuel, often more than once in a generation, which can lead to confusion. Ann or Anna are common names in the Floyd family for women. In addition, DNA matches are confirming relationships among members. Please contribute DNA to Family Tree DNA studies if possible or other testing services where tree matches can be confirmed.
Thomas was involved in numerous and sometimes "unappreciated" land deals. Some with Robert Hodges elicited petitions from citizens (even their own kin) against their grants.
