"According to Rosie Bevan (2020) in her article: "Sharp Practice: An Expose of The Sharpe Pedigree from the 1558 Visitation of Essex",[1] That there is documentation proving that the visitations were incorrect, and that this line that leads to the Sharp family is incorrect.
"Katherine FitzSimond is the daughter of John FitzSimond and Maude Bagot. Katherine was married to Thomas Staunton of Essex, son of Hugh Staunton of Essex. They were the parents of two daughters Jane, who married John Sharpe, and Katherin, who married William Burre.[2] The women of this line all appear to have married at a young age, starting with Elizabeth Swynford who was twelve when she married her first husband. Katherine's years are an estimate based on the time-line beginning with Elizabeth Swynford.[2]
"According to the Visitation of Essex, Katherine's father was a younger John FitzSimond, married to Maude Baghott, daughter of Rauffe. Katherine' cousin Joan FitzSimond was recorded as having been born in 1451, Katherine's age had to be closer to that time period. Also, Katherine's husband Thomas Staunton has been attached to the incorrect father according to the Visitation of Essex. The Visitation has his father as Hugh Staunton, not Robert.[2]
