About Tpr. Allan Gerald Morgan
Allan Gerald Morgan was born at Hobart in Tasmania, Australia, on 1 March 1896. His parents were Arthur James Morgan and Sarah Ann Morgan (nee Sainty) who had married in Sydney in 1895. His family lived at Ruatiti near Raetihi, and later at Henderson in Auckland. Allan gained his New Zealand, Teacher and Civil Service License at Taihape on 20 Januray 1911. During World War I he served with the Wellington Mounted Rifles (Service No. WWI 11/903, name misspelled on Cenotaph as Alan). Allan saw action in Gallipoli before being sent to Egypt. He was killed in action in Egypt on 23 December 1916. 20-year-old Allan was buried in the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery [F. 69] and his medals were sent to his father in Henderson.
