About Vice-Admiral Sir Humphrey Thomas Walwyn, KCSI, KCMG
Vice-Admiral Sir Humphrey Thomas Walwyn, KCSI KCMG CB DSO (25 January 1879 – 29 December 1957) served most of his life in the Royal Navy, rising to the rank of Vice-Admiral and the command of the Royal Indian Navy from 1928, retiring in 1934.
He was educated at Dartmouth Britannia Royal Naval College and joined the Royal Navy in 1895. From 1936 to 1946, he was governor of Newfoundland and chairman of the Commission of Government.
During World War II he was active in encouraging Newfoundlanders to join the war effort. In 1946, he retired to Maiden Newton, Dorset, England, where he died in 1957.

For nine years, Walwyn headed the Commission of Government that governed the Dominion of Newfoundland between 1936 and 1946.
Family
His wife, Lady Eileen Walwyn, was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1947.
