About William Ernest Bailey

The War Years 1939 - 1943

These entries have been pieced together from Bill's photograph collection, Official War Histories and time lines and his Personal History Records obtained from NZDF Archives. The Personal Records are an interesting challenge to read; the entries are cryptic, loaded with military jargon and not necessarily in chronological order.

The photographs from WW2 were most likely not taken by Bill Bailey himself. Like many soldiers, Bill would have collected prints available at the time, privately or semi-officially.

See www.worldwar-2.net/timelines/war-in-the-desert/war-in-the-desert-index.htm and www.worldwar-2.net/timelines/war-in-europe/southern-europe/southern-europe-index-1941 for a background to the sequence of the events.

The Official War History of New Zealand in the Second World War can be viewed online at www.nzetc.org. The ones I have read give an interesting insight into the Kiwi's activities in the war zone.
