About William Calvert Cecil, of Prince George’s County
Not the same as William Cecil, of St. Mary’s
I (Beth Golden) am trying to establish truthful, well-documented profiles for William and his 3 children, after adopting his daughter, Susannah's wikitree profile. In my research I've found quite a few profiles that have seemingly just copied/pasted the incorrect info on this family and want to put things right.
Biography
William Cecil was born about 1665/6. According to his testimony in court (1706/7 and 1732), he was born about 1666 outside of MD but it is unknown at this time whether he was born elsewhere in the Colonies or came directly from England or elsewhere but not Barbados. He is NOT listed in Barbados Church Records 1637 - 1837 or Caribbean Births and Baptisms, 1590-1928 (familysearch.org). He was a Protestant, most likely Anglican, worshipping at St. Barnabas Church Leeland, Upper Marlborough, MD, as in 1708 and 1709 he gave 50 pounds of tobacco to St. Barnabas Church, Queen Anne's Parish in Prince George's. [Note: Queen Anne's Parish was originally St. Paul's Parish. St. Barnabas Church (Upper Marlborough) was a "Chapel of Ease" for St. Paul's. St. Paul's Parish became Queen Anne's Parish in 1704. http://stbarnabas.net/history.html]
He did not marry Ms. Joyner. William with his unknown wife had only 3 children: John, Philip, and Susannah. All 3 were given to Mareen the Elder Duvall to raise - this the deathbed request of his wife, in 1698.
The ancestry of William has not yet been established. He was not a descendant of Lord Burghley. However, he and Lord Burghley shared a common ancestor born about 1345. And, the Cecil families of Prince George's and St. Mary's shared a common ancestor who was born about 1275.

Other forms of surname found in MD, VA, and PA records: Cecell, Cissell, Sisell, Cecill, Cicill, Cessell, and many other variations.
He lived along Beaver Dam Creek in Western Branch Hundred, Prince George's, Maryland, British America in 1719. Up until 1748 all the Cecil records are in Prince George's County. In 1743 Frederick County was formed from Prince George's. In 1776 Montgomery was formed from Frederick. The area is now a suburb of Washington, DC, between Cheverly and Bowie, MD. Beaver Dam Creek is a tributary of a western branch of the Patuxent River. Also living near here were Phillip Cecil, Mareen Duvall, Sr., and Jr., also Philip Gittings and Col. Thomas Sprigg, among others. See "Where's William" in Gallery for a description of where William lived.
William had some wealth (1708 and 1709 tobacco donation listed above and Inventory taken after his death listed below) and could write his name. For an undetermined reason, he was living with Dr. Richard Pile in 1706/7. However, no land records have been found for him, so he may have been an tenant. See Media for further research purposes.
William died before 29 July 1749 when his estate was settled. Please see Media for complete inventory.
Please see his wikitree profile for primary documentation and further information https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cecil-1429
The guardian of his children was Mareen Duvall, the Elder.
