William de Knightley

Anne de Charlton, was the only child and heir of Thomas de Charlton. She married William Knightley, who took the name of Charlton, and they were the parents of Thomas, father of Robert, who married Mary, daughter of Robert Corbet of Morton corbet.

  • 34. Thomas de Knightley de Charlton, b. 30 mar. 1394, d. 4 Jan. 1460; m. Elizabeth Francis, dau. of Sir Robert Francis (Franceys) of Foremark, co. Derby. (See TAG 35: 62-63).

Pedigrees of the plea rolls state that John de Knighteleye was the guardian of Ann Cherlton.

William de Knightley adopted his wife's family name of de Charlton upon the death of his wife's brother Thomas at the age of 17 years who was the last of the family line from then on this branch of the family was known as de Charlton, Although clearly this family branch is still a Knightley male blood line.
