About William Sweat / Pamunkey

A church list date 1834 includes the names of four people excluded from the congregation, one of which was William Sweat with Jessey Bradby, David Miles all identified by additional documents as Pamunkey. (See Media Section). Old Geneologies have him as a devoted Whig and very wealthy. The record shows he was a Pamunkey who was not allowed to start a separate congregation due to fears of insurrection. Interesting to note that more than a few descendants did become ministers in the next generations.

This is a progenitor line of a diaspora for the natives who self referenced as Lumbee on the Lumbar River and as Old Cheraw in Cheraw, MS, this particular progenitor branch going from Wahunseneca's favorite residence (on record) of him many residences, Coropeake, VA, there then comes transfer community first recorded by Laderer in 1668 that picked up natives and kept marrying natives to Ft Adams, Indian Territory transfer community awaiting lands from many Jackson and Van Buren, of which centered around what is now Cheraw, MS

On the way out of Virginia, the book called Indians of North Carolina, p. 53 has the group at a post that was for Colonial War duties / Westron Indian Census Community - so Westroners they were called on the west side of the Elizabeth River. This was a pan native community. The Coropeake connection to the Cheraw is MS is also via the Patawomeck sister of Cockocoeske, named Isomgosiono.
