On 24 Nov. 1529, James V of Scotland gave £400 as tocher to an unnamed daughter of John, 2nd Lord Fleming, and sister of Malcolm, 34d Lord Fleming. The fact that James V gave this very considerable sum as tocher suggests a family relationship. In Margaret Fleming's case, her connection to the king would be as a great-granddaughter of James V's great-aunt. The size of the tocher may also indicate that Margaret was the king's former mistress." the article in NEHGS by Scherer referred to Andrew B.W.MacEwen for this argument.
