My great grandfather, James Henry Aykroyd came here from Manchester, England. He first settled in Montreal, Canada in @ 1882. In 1883 his family joined him. In @ 1885 they moved into the Boston area from Canada.
His father, another James Aykroyd moved to New Brunswick from England. He had moved there a few years earlier than James Henry. James visited his father in New Brunswick when he was about sixteen and told about traveling with his father on the banks of the St. John River.
James Henry Aykroyd was a certified chief engineer on large ships, He worked for either Cunard or White Star while he lived in England. This kept him away from his family for long periods of time. He was a very inventive man and invented a gasoline engine which he went to England to patent.
