THE Barony or Lordship of Dallas, from which the family takes its name, is an extensive tract of land in the shire of Elgin on either side of the River Lossie, often referred to as Strath Dallas. The spelling of the name has varied con- siderably from time to time, the following being probably a fairly complete list of the ' forms ' from the earliest recorded period, arranged after the manner of the Oxford New English Dictionary, 3 indicating those anterior to the year 1300, 4 those anterior to 1400, and so forth :
