I have been interested in the origin of the Ling family name for a number of years but on a recent trip to the Jorvik Centre in York an attendant there researched the name for me while we waited in the queue. She confirmed that it was of Scandinavian (Viking) origin. This would appear to be consistent with the large number of , what appear to be, Scandinavian Lings in the GENI database. I also believe that, in the UK, Lings are more frequently found to be living along the east coast and particularly in East Anglia. My paternal family comes from Norfolk though I moved to the Midlands many years ago. Rod Ling
