In 1801 Fairfield Dist., SC, Thomas Pinnell died intestate. Administration of his estate was transfered to Elizabeth Pinnell after the original administrator, William Pinnell, died.

Correction: Thomas Pinnell died in 1803. Elizabeth Pinnell was made administrator in 1810.

Note that Pannell (in SC) is sometimes seen as Parnell. But I also saw it spelled Thomas "Pinnell" in the previous document I linked just above.

An 1843 Greenville Dist., SC, deed signed by Lewis J. Pinnell and witnessed by Elizabeth Pinnell.

DAR clumps together some spellings & the Pinions & Pennells are clumped together. I saw 13 Patriots & 4 others under a similar name Pannill. As you look at the descendants of the Patriots, it will revert to the actual name as used by the individual.

I also saw a descendant whose surname was spelled Pinell. There may be a multitude that I haven't found yet.

Can be confusing, even of course within the family unit.

Also 2 Patriots listed under Pinnell.

I find the Pinyon/Pinion variation definitively associated with a Reuben PENNEL of North Carolina, whose son identified himself as Reuben Wilson Pinion/Pinyan, a resident of Union Co. NORTH Carolina.

Reuben PENNEL's wife was Lydia.

In the same veteran's file (transcribed): "...Benjamin Pennel (who is often called Benjamin Penion) appeared before me William Lenoir a Justice of the Peace of said County and solemnly made Oath in due form of Law that he by the best account he can obtain at this time [is] about 63 years old and that in the time of the Cherokee Indian war he lived with his Father in Surry County, North Carolina, and that this Deponent well Remembers that h[e ]is Brother Reuben Pennel..."
