About John Lewis, Sr.
- NOT the son of Sir Edward Lewis, “of London” . Edward died about a decade before John was born. John’s parents are still UNKNOWN.

John Lewis, Sr., emigrated from Wales to Virginia. He was born about 1640. It is not known whom he married. He died in Hanover county in 1726, where his will is on record. In his will he mentions the names of his six children, as follows:

2 2Abraham Lewis, born about 1679.
2 3Sarah Lewis, born about 1681.
2 4Mrs. Angelica Fullelove, born about 1688.

JOHN LEWIS, OF HANOVER COUNTY, VIRGINIA.
John Lewis, Sr., emigrated from Wales to Virginia. He was born about 1640. It is not known whom he married. He died in Hanover county in 1726, where his will is on record. In his will he mentions the names of his six children, as follows:
- 2 1Mrs. Rebecca Lindsay, born about 1677.
- 2 2Abraham Lewis, born about 1679.
- 2 3Sarah Lewis, born about 1681.
- 2 4Mrs. Angelica Fullelove, born about 1688.
- 2 5David Lewis, born about 1685.

Origins
Supposedly....
Son of Sir Edward Lewis of London, England says DAR; born ca. 1635-40. Some say he was born in Wales, some say France; at least one story says he was a French Huguenot who fled to Wales to avoid Catholic persecution; he came to America about 1665 and settled in New Kent Co., now Hanover Co., Virginia; married Mary W Brant, who was born 1650; married a second and a third time.

- I. Samuel Lewis, went to Portugal; nothing is known of him.
- II. William Lewis, d. in Ireland. Married Miss Mclelland
- III. General Robert Lewis, d. in Gloucester Co., Va.
- IV. John Lewis, d. in Hanover Co., Va.
