Biography
According to records found, Lazarus Stewart married Margaret Steuart, sister of George Steuart of Donegal township, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, (B89 -SCM), as indicated by an entry in a minute book of the Pennsylvania board of property: "Feb 28, 1728/29: George Stewart requests the grant of about 500 acres or land below the fork of Sawatara creek, 200 acres for himself and 300 acres for his brother-in-law, Lazerus Stewart." (G245-SCM) 3 This newly found record of the wife of Lazarus is a good indication of where in N. Ireland that was the home place of Margaret Steuart, his wife. It was no doubt Donegal County in N. Ireland because their township in Lancaster, PA was then named Donegal TWP. That is where we should find the ancestry for Margaret in Ireland.

download the reader version and first can be seen on p43(see at the top)screen page 295 the May 1928 Stewart Clan Magazine information given regarding the brothers who immigrated to Drumore Twp. and Paxtang & Hanover Twps., Lancaster Co., PA named as Lazarus, Stephen(named later as brother of Lazarus), Samuel, and Hugh. However, they have been disconnected now because the tested YDNA of Samuel and Hugh leads to unknown Stewarts of Scotland before 1635. Descendants of Lazarus have found their Ydna to be R-FT74278 (Y-DNA) which comes from the Stewarts of Bute, a son of King of Scots Robert II Stewart. Andrew born 1699 is also named with them as a possible brother, but we have found this Andrew as a distant cousin of Lazarus and descendant of Andrew Stewart, Master of Ochiltree, Scotland. Note, they all ended up in the Paxtang Community together as well as distant cousins Margaret who married Lazarus and her brother George who purchased property right beside Lazarus and his sister shortly before he died. On the reader much more information is given on the descendants of Lazarus following screen page 295 including his children, Margaret, Margery, John, Peter, and David & others. Then go to screen page 342 dated December 1928 issue of the Stewart Magazine(shows page 89 on the top).
The information starting from page 342 shows that George, Margaret's brother, did have a brother named James who came with him to Lancaster, Donegal Twp., Pennsylvania in the 1710s. George also named one of his sons James born 1708 who is featured in George's will proved 1733. The son of George, James, married Margaret Stewart, daughter of Lazarus Stewart and one of their prominent sons was Capt. Lazarus Stewart of the Paxtang Boys Militia which joined the British in fighting the French and Indian Wars and then joined the American Revolutionary Army/Militias to fight the British for independence. Capt. Lazarus moved to Wyoming Twp, Luzerne Co. up near Scranton, PA and with his company of over 100 soldiers were confronted in 1777-8 with a force of British and Iroqois opponents. The irregular order of the Iroqois confused Capt. Lazarus and they lost the battle and were all massacred by the Iroqois. It is called the Wyoming Massacre in the history books. Several cousins of Capt. Lazarus also lost their lives in the same battle. One was Lt. Lazarus Stewart. All these descendants of Lazarus Stewart the immigrant and his brother-in-law George Stewart the immigrant carried on these ancestors' example of being proponents of independence from England and freedom from persecution from the established church of England. These Stewarts all worked hard to found Presbyterian churches in Pennsylvania. The above distant cousin, Andrew Stewart, Master of Ochiltree, Scotland had a sister Margaret who at age 18 married an elderly John Knox and yet they still had 3 daughters before Knox died. These daughters all married and at least one had children whose lineages carry on down to today. Descendants of these 3 daughters and John Knox, the founder of the Scottish Presbyterian Church, are the only direct descendants today of John Knox. One of these descendant families is named Welch. So all those Stewarts descended from the Ochiltree Stewarts and Master Andrew could call the founder of the Presbyterian Church their Uncle John Knox.
She(Margaret) is the last in the family tree papers I have directly from my ancestors. They specified that she was maiden name Harris. How then, are both her parents Stewart’s? Was she adopted? Do any of you have proof of her parentage?
Media photo 1 is now posted showing how the above confusion was developed. Margaret Harris who married Charles Stewart was not from Massachusetts nor born in 1685. She was the same age as Charles then at 19 and they already had their firstborn, George before 1685. The Media photo shows the Ipswich, Massachusetts actual birth record of a Margaret born May 22, 1685 to John Harris and Esther. So that is neither the birth of Margaret Stewart who married Lazarus, nor the Margaret Harris who married Charles Stewart. Profile has been modified. Obviously someone had placed two Margarets in there, mother and daughter, but with the same maiden name. Just a careless error by somebody. Only the mother had that maiden name. We also resolved the birthdate problem with Margaret Stewart (Harris). Then her daughter Margaret has been kept at b1685 and possibly was a year or two later. Geni has the Great Puritan Migration groups involving many of us. Well, there were many other great migration groups and the Presbyterians from Scotland who were considered then dissidents were one of those groups, let us remember. It got them into a great deal of trouble and some took refuge first in Ireland and then America in order to seek freedom of religion. Margaret's family lived for certain periods and married in Ireland well before Margaret was born. Those were troubled times and individuals came out of the established church in protest, even departing from their parents and siblings and leaving for Pennsylvania for Heavens sake. Here in the New World this resulted in a new order of things where the old landed gentry got mixed in with families they would never have touched in the Old World. This resulted in a very favorable improvement in the gene pool. For Margaret and Lazarus Stewart this was an exciting dynamic for their children, even if it was only for the Presbyterian Church.
