The 1790 census for Amelia County, Virginia recorded a population of 18,097. However, the original federal census schedules for Virginia from 1790 are no longer available. This is because records for several states, including Virginia, were lost between 1790 and 1830. In total, almost one-third of the original census data has been lost or destroyed.
