Sir Knight Johannes Snewli Von Lunkhofen

Johannes Lunkhofen was born 1277 in Lunkhofen, Aargau, Switzerlandmap, the son of Henricus von Lunkhofen and Judenta Snewli. He married Agnes E' (Snewli) Snewli von Lunkhofen and was the father of Heinrich (von Lunkhofen) Snewli and Ulrich Snewli Sr..Johannes von Lunkhofen passed away about 1346, about the same time Lunkhofen castle was destroyed.

Johannes was a member of ZURCHER RITTERGESCHLECHT (THE ZURICHER HOUSE OF KNIGHTS). He was sometimes known as Johannes Von Lunghof in his earlier years. He was the sixth knight in the order of KNIGHTS VON LUNKHOFEN, a string of six knights spanning six consecutive generations. He served as councilman in third place of the RITTERBURTIGEN (Knight's Castle) for an unspecified length of time. He married the third of three SNEWLI women (Agnes) to be taken into the family in three consecutive generations and the female surname of SNEWLI replaced the Lunkhofen name. Johannes took on his mother's surname as his father before him took on his wife's surname in his later years for reasons unknown. Documentation states that Johannes took on the name of SNEWLI at his wedding in 1317 (very strange indeed considering the time period). It is believed that after this event the knights of his order were then known as KNIGHTS SNEWLI VON LUNKHOFEN but not long thereafter the Lunkhofen name was dropped entirely and future descendants would carry the name Snewli with some spelling variations while the Lunkhofen name would fade into oblivion.
