William Lee, III, was born in Meherrin Parish, Isle of Wight, Virginia, on June 23, 1683, and was the son of William (Hugh) Lee II and Ann Tatum. He married Rebecca Burchet in Brunswick County, Virginia, in 1725, and they had six children, all born in Meherrin Parrish, Brunswick County, Virginia:

Seven children
Kelly reports that Amy Lee Barrow's father, William Lee of Meherrin Parish, Brunswick County, died in May 1761, leaving a will dated 1759, and named her in his will. She and her sisters, Elizabeth, Ann and Rebecca were bequeathed one Negro named Mason, and all of William's personal property, after the decease of his wife.

William gr ew up in Charles City County and while doing so became acquainted with Reb ecca Burchett, a descendent probably of Edward Birchett who was granted 5 51 acres of land in Charles City County in October 1673. The associati on ended in marriage and the result were a number of children listed in h is will. On Oct 17, 1755 he deeded to his grandson, Peter Lee (son of Peter) a fema le slave
