About the Galbraith surname

Alexander Galbraith Y-Hg N-BY55625 B Abt 1787 D 4th December 1873 distant cousin to James Leach Y-Hg N-M178 (Gedmatch M740667)

From Keith Galbraith (descendant of Alexander Galbraith)

Hi Jim

There is a connection but I don’t have any documentation that proves it. My Great Grandfather George Galbraith b 1850 emigrated to NZ with his cousin James Leitch circa 1883 from memory. They were both involved in sheep farming over here and I assume the same in Berwickshire. George married and had several children but his wife died young (28). My Grandfather and his siblings were then brought up by James Leitch and his wife who the kids called Mudder as I believe she was German or Dutch.

Best Keith

Hypothesis: They are outliers of the surnames Galbraith and Leitch/Leach that are Y Hg N-178 or N-BY55625, this could indicate a common male ancestor.
